Competitive Events

Tournaments

Every club hosts an annual tournament open to any graded player in New Zealand. You play for yourself and they are played often from Thursday to Sunday depending on the draw, and you will play three to four games over those days. 
  • When:  Usually played Thursday, Friday, Saturday depending on the Tournament format
  • Status:  Ongoing - entries will open on a rolling basis per tournament (check Otago Squash emails)
  • Type: Competitive for all graded players. Competition points against the National Grading List apply
  • Format: Players are placed into divisions based on their Grading and play each other in a 8-draw or 16-draw format
  • Who can play: Any graded player within the Dunedin area. Often separate men's and women's competition.
  • Where: Played at the host club, with some games played at a supporting club if required.
Pirates Tournaments

Winter Interclub

A winter time competition, where you represent your club in teams, playing against other clubs from around Dunedin. Played on Tuesday (lower grades) and Wednesday (high grades), there are two round robins, followed by semis and finals.  Then a Dunedin wide presentation night - a great party to discuss the season in a social setting. 
  • When:  Tuesday or Wednesday nights from 6pm (approx April to August)
  • Status:  2023 entries closed.
  • Type: Competitive for all graded players. Competition points against the National Grading List apply
  • Format: Players are placed into club teams within Pirates, based on points and selection games. Each team will play other teams from around the Dunedin club competition once per week and representing the Pirates Club. 
  • Who can play: Pirates Club members can only play for Pirates. All teams are mixed gender. 
  • Where: All clubs rotating depending on which other clubs are within your division.
Enter Winter Interclub

District Eliminations

This is a round robin event to find the best club team in each grade division to go to the National Super Champs. This is split into male and female competition with the top 6 to 7 players from each grade (B, C, D, E & F/J) forming a team. The event is a series of matches played over one weekend against other clubs from the Dunedin district, the best of which then goes to to compete against the best from Central Otago. The winning team gains entry to the National Super Champs representing their club and the Otago district. 
  • When:  28th - 30th July 2023
  • Status:  Speak to a committee member if interested in playing
  • Type: Competitive for selected graded players. Competition points against the National Grading List apply
  • Format: Players of the same division form a  club team to play off against other clubs. 
  • Who can play: Any graded player within the Dunedin area. Often separate men's and women's competition.
  • Where: Played at a selected club each year with the Otago district.

Interclub Knockout

Between the two rounds for Winter Interclub above, there is a four week individual knockout competition. This is not part of the main Interclub competition, but an individual knockout draw, played for grading points. 
  • When:  Tuesday or Wednesday nights from 6pm (14 June - 6 July 2022)
  • Status:  Open
  • Type: Competitive for all graded players. Competition points against the National Grading List apply
  • Format: Players are placed into divisions based on their Grading and play each other in a knockout format
  • Who can play: Any graded player within the Dunedin area. This is a mixed gender competition. 
  • Where: You will play all games at one Club in Dunedin, notified once all entries are received and processed. ​

Summer Interclub

This is an individual competition played twice; pre-Christmas (5 weeks) and post-Christmas
​(6-8 weeks). You play against other similar graded members in Dunedin in a round robin format, playing at the same club each week. 
  • When:  Monday nights from 6.00pm 
  • Status: Entries Open
  • Type: Competitive for all graded players. Competition points against the National Grading List apply
  • Format: Players are placed into divisions based on their Grading and play each other once
  • Who can play: Any player from any club
  • Where: You will play all games at one Club in Dunedin, notified once all entries are received and processed.

Enter Summer Interclub

Club Challenge

This is a club vs club competition played near the beginning of the winter season over four weeks. A player from each grade represent the club, totalling 5 players from the club playing each week. 
  • When:  Monday nights (starting  14th May 2019)
  • Status:  Closed
  • Type: Competitive for selected graded players. Competition points against the National Grading List apply
  • Format: Club vs Club - each club selects the best female or male from each Grade to represent the club. A minimum of 2 females must play each week. 
  • Who can play: Graded players will be invited to play for the club.  
  • Where: You will play all games at one Club in Dunedin, notified once all entries are received and processed. ​
